“Based on 2 Timothy 2:15

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

In Part 1, we discussed the importance of studying God’s word, so in  Part 2, we will investigate further the continuation of 2 Timothy 2:15. So, is it possible to be ashamed of our obedience when it relates to studying God’s word and our Christian walk?

Let us be careful to recognize that there are many scholars who “study” the Bible; however, we know the Holy Spirit is the Teacher of the word, and without His divine guidance, most are left with a sense of dismay when trying to understand how God works “all things after the council of His own will (Ephesians 1:11).”

When a Christian diligently studies

what God has to say for Believers today, that person will not be ashamed when seeking God’s approval for his or her faithful walk in Christ.

Please understand, “the natural (unbelieving) man does not accept the things [the teachings and revelations] of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness [absurd and illogical] to him; and he is incapable of understanding them, because they are spiritually discerned … [and he is unqualified to judge spiritual matters] (I Corinthians 2:14).” However, when a Christian diligently studies what God has to say for Believers today, that person will not be ashamed when seeking God’s approval for his or her faithful walk in Christ.

It all starts with a resolve to study God’s word and to obey it.

A Christian who studies will (more likely) be able to “live a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called [that is, to live a life that exhibits godly character, moral courage, personal integrity, and mature behavior—a life that expresses gratitude to God for your salvation], (Ephesians 4:1).” In doing so, you will not be ashamed for the way you live as a Believer. Again, it all starts with a resolve to study God’s word and to obey it. Your identity in Christ requires faith; however, walking obediently in God’s will for your life will require studying, and correctly applying His instructions to you from His word.
